Conference 2013: Data, insights, reflections

The Global Gender Gap Report 2013 The situation regarding gender equality in Italy is improving, but we still have a long way to go. This is evident from The Global Gender Gap Report 2013, a study by the World Economic Forum that analyzes gender equality around the world. The survey is conducted in 136 countries based on four criteria: health, education, work, and political participation.

In the fifth report, published in October, Iceland is confirmed as the country with the smallest gender gap in the world, followed by Finland, Norway, and Sweden. Globally, the gender gap has narrowed: 86 of the 136 countries studied (93% of the population) have shown a slight improvement.

Italy has gained 9 positions, from 80th in 2012 to 71st this year, but remains two positions behind China. Our country is still far from guaranteeing equal rights between men and women. Specifically, we rank 44th in politics, 65th in education, 72nd in health, and 99th in equality in the labor market.
