Pubblicità Progresso at the Festival of Participation

In L’Aquila, from July 7 to 10, 2016, the Festival of Participation will take place. The idea for this event comes from Italia, sveglia!, an alliance of three organizations, ActionAid, Cittadinanzattiva and Slow Food Italia, and in collaboration with the Municipality of L’Aquila. “Italia, Sveglia!” was born to contribute to the transformation of the country through the active role and participation of citizens and the protection of their rights.

More than 50 events in 4 days. 14 venues in the heart of the city, including halls, classrooms, theaters, historic buildings, as well as squares and wonderful courtyards restored to their ancient beauty. More than 100 protagonists, 4 theatrical performances, performances, walkabouts, a disco-soup and two concerts (one of which is “participatory” for orchestra and audience); the arrival of the long March for L’Aquila; the farmers’ market and the city garden, workshops and experiential tables, the opening of ancient ovens; safety in schools and civic “power”; Radio Rai 3 “Tutta la città ne parla” live from the Parco del Castello, the editorial office in Piazza de “Il Centro” and then debates, masterclasses, comparisons and conferences, a hackathon, a shared lunch of the citizens of L’Aquila with at least a thousand of the 3500 workers engaged in post-earthquake reconstruction, exhibitions, a “square of participation” open to non-scheduled proposals and many, many active citizens.

ll this makes the Festival of Participation an event not to be missed.

Pubblicità Progresso will be present with part of its exhibition “Per sempre presente”, twelve panels, twelve of the most significant Pubblicità Progresso campaigns, to retrace and relive in memory the purposes, images and words of the culture of social communication.

Furthermore, on Friday, July 8th at 3:00 pm – CORTILE CAPPA CAPPELLI The Communication of Values Alberto Contri, Lorenzo Marini. Curated by Pubblicità Progresso The important story of Pubblicità Progresso, witnessed by the exhibition on view at the Festival, tells of a possible use of mass communication tools in order to promote the civil values of social progress. However, today more and more, even commercial advertising makes use of value-based narratives in order to increase consumption. Overlaps, confusion, motivations and possible convergences: a dialogue between two great protagonists of communication.
