Pubblicità Progresso launches a social experiment against the Blue Whale phenomenon

July 31, 2017 – Social Whale: this is the name of the social experiment conducted by Pubblicità Progresso to demonstrate that social networks can become, if used appropriately, vectors of positive values. The reference to Blue Whale, the horror game that pushes young social network users to overcome a series of extreme tests, is evident, but the purpose is completely opposite: the project is a response to the macabre challenge to suicide, aims to transmit positive values, share them with young people through the mechanism of gamification and rediscover the importance of social messages and small gestures that each of us can perform to make the world a better place, even through a simple smile.

The initiative, by reproducing the functioning of the extreme game Blue Whale, provides that, starting from July 31st and throughout the month of August 2017 on the Pubblicità Progresso Facebook page, 31 actions will be proposed with a card, one a day, which will invite participants to perform the test during the day and share it on their Facebook or Instagram profile, setting the public privacy option so that the post is visible on their wall using the hashtag #SocialWhale, mandatory to participate in the daily contest.

Pubblicità Progresso intends to involve the largest possible number of social network users over the age of 14 in the social experiment, who can voluntarily participate every day by performing simple actions that have a social utility or that are intended to bring themselves and their neighbors a smile, thus becoming Smilers, those who, by spreading a smile, will launch a message of cohesion.

From the first day, participants will be asked to be bearers of a smile, taking a smiling or funny selfie and sharing it, becoming the protagonist of the Social Whale. Other examples of proposed actions will be, for example, drawing a smile on a post-it and sticking it in the first place that comes to mind or behaving in a sustainable manner, preferring the shower to a bath, saving water and timing yourself.

At the end of each day and following a careful selection by a dedicated team, the most representative post of the day will be published on the Pubblicità Progresso Facebook page. The search for the most representative content of the day will take place by filtering the hashtag #SocialWhale, within the Facebook and Instagram channels.

In order to promote the project, influencer tests will actively participate, including The Social Post, The Bright Side, Il Superuovo, Sii come Bill, L’Oltreuomo, Il Taxi di Milano % and Antipatia Gratuita, who will help Pubblicità Progresso in the dissemination of the social initiative and will be part of the jury that will identify the 5 most deserving contents that will be exhibited and awarded at the annual Social Communication Festival, the closing day of which will take place on November 28, 2017 at the Salone d’Onore of the Triennale di Milano.

We thank for the dissemination: The Social Post, The Bright Side, Il Superuovo, Sii come Bill, L’Oltreuomo, Il Taxi di Milano % and Antipatia Gratuita.
